Common questions.
What patients ask most before a consultation: surgery decisions, recovery, return to sport, travelling for treatment and booking.
General
Do I need surgery?
Not every tear needs an operation. The decision depends on your age, activity, how long you have had symptoms and what the MRI shows; non-surgical options are always discussed.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes. Book a consultation and attach your MRI and report to the booking form.
What is arthroscopy?
Keyhole surgery in which a joint is examined and treated with a camera through a few small incisions — used in the hip, knee and shoulder.
Travelling for treatment
Can my MRI be reviewed before I travel?
Yes. Attaching your images and report to the booking form is enough; the review helps plan your visit, and the final plan is made after the examination.
Is a video consultation possible?
Yes, video consultations can be arranged through Acıbadem International, with an interpreter if needed.
Which languages are spoken?
Prof. Gürsoy consults in Turkish and English; interpreters for other languages are available through Acıbadem International.
Can I continue rehabilitation at home?
Yes. You receive a staged rehabilitation plan to continue with a physiotherapist in your country; the timing of your flight home is agreed with the team.
Hip
Who is hip arthroscopy for?
Mostly young, active patients with hip impingement or labral tears who do not have advanced arthritis.
Is my groin pain coming from the hip?
It may be, but a hernia, muscle injury or the lower back can cause similar pain; a careful examination and imaging are needed.
Knee
When can I return to sport after ACL reconstruction?
In the general literature return to play is usually planned for 9–12 months; the date is set by strength and function tests rather than the calendar.
Is the meniscus repaired or removed?
Repair is preferred whenever possible, because the meniscus protects the knee against arthritis in the long term.
Shoulder
Do I need surgery after a first dislocation?
Not always. The risk of recurrence is assessed from your age, sport and MRI findings.

Where are consultations held?
